About
Mauro’s passion with photography evolved over many years of travel, where his camera served not only as a piece of recording equipment, but also as a loyal companion.
In 2012, he was offered an opportunity to live and work in South East Asia, based in Saigon, Vietnam. On most weekends he would set out and walk the streets capturing the day to day goings on of the local people.
Living in Vietnam provided the perfect location to visit nearby countries.
Mauro immersed himself within the various cultures and the local inhabitants appeared like actors in this theatre of a seemingly chaotic life.
It was during this period where his love and appreciation for street photography was born.
When his contract expired at the end of 2015, he returned to Australia and with the encouragement from an Australian photographer he’d met in Vietnam, set about to arrange his first photography exhibition titled - “Vietnam - People and Places” in early 2016.
That exhibition and another subsequent exhibition in 2018 generated some exposure and it wasn’t long before he started receiving enquiries for photography work. Slowly building a portfolio mainly shooting cafe vibes for Tiamo restaurant and birthdays for friends and acquaintances.
As they say in the classics, ‘word of mouth is the cheapest and best form of advertising’, by 2019, he was shooting on average 1-2 events a month.
Covid_19 Pandemic arrived on Australian shores in early 2020 resulting in cancellations of events and driving a dagger through the heart of the creative and arts industry.
Maintaining a strong desire to continue photographing, Mauro would often set out photographing and documenting the Melbourne streets during prolonged lockdowns.
In 2022 it was like the shackles had been removed and life in this amazing city was slowly getting back to normal. This resulted in events returning and bookings were coming in thick and fast.
In early 2022, Mauro decided to challenge himself and combine his two great passions of music and photography and set about capturing some of his favourite bands playing live. Opportunities then arose where he was invited to capture comedic acts performing at majestic theatres and arenas like the Palais in Melbourne, Rod Laver Arena and the State Theatre in NSW. The flow on effect from doing these type of shows then led to being offered an opportunity to capture events for his beloved Carlton Football Club.
”Photography has allowed me to meet and be involved with some amazing and talented people. To discover their life stories, put smiles on peoples faces and to capture moments in time that will never occur again in anyones life time.
For this I am truly blessed and Thankful”.
